This miniature block plane is a must-have for any luthier, woodworker, or precision craftsman. Lightweight, to always be within reach, it can be carried in an apron pocket. It excels in tasks where larger planes can't reach, offering exceptional quality and precision. In fact, it was recommended to me during my time at violin school as an essential tool for a luthier.

Designed for one-handed use - the cast circular depression for the index finger at the toe of the plane is in lieu of a knob.

The original Stanley 101, introduced in 1877, was originally sold in toy tool chests before becoming available within Stanley’s line due to high demand. It was marketed as “a convenient tool, proven so useful for making slight repairs to windows, doors, furniture, etc., that it was expected to be wanted in every household”.

Luban has improved on the original design:

With a bedding angle of 12 degrees (bevel up), this plane performs exceptionally well on end grain. The included T10 carbon steel blade is sharpened to a 25-degree angle. Extra blades are available for purchase separately in our e-shop.

Note: Although the blade is factory-sharpened, it is highly recommended to hone it before use to achieve lasting sharpness.
