The SGS510 set is the most luxurious tuning mechanism on the market, period.
Lubri-Plate electrolytic lubricating material
Only in the top SGS510 series, Gotoh processes all gears with Lubri-Plate material through electrolysis. Lubrication is then provided by this material with lubricating properties. Throughout the lifetime of the mechanism, oil is not needed. Thanks to the Lubri-Plate material developed by Gotoh, tuning is extremely smooth without jumps and has unparalleled long-term tuning stability.
Rock-Solid
During the next string installation, pay attention to the axles of the Gotoh mechanism. Try moving them sideways like in competing products. Gotoh has developed a new system of super-stable axles.
MG string axle
The displayed mechanism is equipped with a special MG string axle lock.
The Magnum Lock MG string axle uses the tension of the string itself as its locking mechanism. Unlike standard axles, it does not lock the string too tightly, eliminating the risk of the string breaking due to strong locking.
This system has no risk of detuning the guitar after releasing the strings using the tremolo arm. A novelty is also the use of a smaller hole diameter of 1.2mm for the first three strings for a more positive grip on thin strings and thus further improvement of tuning stability.
Why do we want a lockable tuning mechanism?
Locking the mechanism holds the string, eliminating the need to wind the string around the axle multiple times, saving time during string installation and, above all, reducing tuning problems.
How to use the Gotoh Magnum lockable tuning mechanism
In the video, you can see the use of the Magnum mechanism. In short, the string locks itself by turning the tuning mechanism. The Magnum mechanism initially closes the string during turning and only then can turn the string axle, meaning tuning the string. On the contrary, when releasing the string tension, it unlocks. If the string is broken, this does not work, and you may need to use a coin, for example.
No, the coin doesn't have to be Japanese like in the video, but if you want to be authentic...
